Impact 2000 Youth Group Electrifies ASI Convention

Posted on Aug 16 2013

The hall of the Barcelo Hotel came alive with the high energy that only a group of over 50 young people could bring. This was the group Impact 2000, that came to the 13th ASI Convention and thrilled and inspired us with singing and preaching and raising the roof with their high impact, impassioned praises to God.

The ASI chapter delegates could not contain themselves as the group belted out “John Saw Jerusalem, the City of God”.  Shouts of joy, clapping, and shouting took over the convention program as everyone laid aside their inhibitions and joined the young people in their openly joyful praise. It was undoubtedly one of the high points of the evening.

Impact 2000, is a group of young people from various Caribbean countries who journey over the Division each year sharing the gospel message through the voices of youth and children. Numerous simultaneous campaigns are conducted, and the young people also engage in community outreach activities in the regions where they minister.

Sis Marvelee Franklin , the group leader was called to the stage by Pastor Telemaque and presented with an award in Inter-America Division for her work  with these young  missionaries, Vice-President,  of the Division. This was handed over by Pastor Wellington. In an interesting twist, the son of Sis Franklin was also similarly awarded by the Inter-America Division. He was cited as being one of the most outstanding youth mission leaders in the division, and had the distinction of raising up the first Spanish speaking church in the Bahamas. It was therefore only fitting that Pastor Leonard Johnson President of Atlantic Caribbean Union Mission made the presentation.

The group continues its current mission in Limon, Costa Rica where preachers as young as 6 years old are sharing the word of God, and impacting the local community. There month long mission will conclude on August 26th, and they will return for the final convention day on Sabbath, August 17th.

In an interview following their performance, Sis Franklin revealed that she assisted in starting this program in response to seeing young people losing interest in the Church and leaving in great numbers. The Lord impressed her and the other initiators that a program of involvement and witnessing was the answer to this problem. This program thus started and through it her 4 children have also developed into outstanding missionaries and are active members of this team.
